If you have a young family this could be a heading that you just laugh at!
“Sleep! What sleep?!”
There are definitely certain stages of our lives that affect our sleep patterns differently.
As an adult we ideally need 7 - 9 hours of sleep.
The important thing is to prioritise sleep itself. As adults we need some down time after the kids go to bed, but we will also feel much better the next morning if we get an early night.
There are some simple things we can do to make bedtime more restful.
Avoiding screens before bed is important. It suppresses melatonin levels and affects how easily you get to sleep, along with the quality of that eventual sleep. Having a hot shower before bed can help. Making sure the temperature of the bedroom isn’t too hot will also impact your nights sleep.
Of course, like all things, please consult your doctor if you are not experiencing enough sleep.
